In 2023, Supernova Ska Festival, Jump Up Records and the Alpha School of Music released a vinyl record at the festival that sold out in a matter of days. It is now available for the first time to the public. Click to purchase.
This special release recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong studio in Kingston is the first ever release featuring Alpha School of Music students.
With the iconic ska anthem, “Eastern Standard Time” on Side A (a Studio One anthem by the Skatalites) and the original Jamaican mento, “Rukumbine”, on Side B, (given a classic 1960s arrangement by Alpha band director Peter Ashbourne) this record is a snapshot of Jamaican popular music just as it was about to take off.
The release includes a 4-page insert describing the unique project and the musicians involved.
