The Alpha School of Music is proud to announce its annual Christmas Festival carries special meaning as the performance will highlight musicians from western Jamaica where music education and performance have been severely affected.

Alpha is honoured to welcome for the first time to campus, the Young Jamaica Ensemble. Based at Sam Sharpe Teachers College in Montego Bay, the Young Jamaica Ensemble–whose rehearsal and performance spaces have been rendered unusable–will travel to Kingston to present a special brass Christmas repertoire.
“The Christmas Festival has always been about joy, community and the power of music to bring people together,” said Margaret Little Wilson, Alpha’s Administrator. “This year, it’s even more significant as we try to uplift the spirits of friends and family affected by Hurricane Melissa.”

Vinton Haughton, director of the Young Jamaica Ensemble, says music will give strength and an important sense of purpose.
“We are grateful to Alpha for inviting us to perform,” said Haughton. “The Christmas performance is our signature performance. It has been held for 25 consecutive years and we do not plan to miss this year. Sharing the stage with Alpha reminds me that there is one music community. We are resilient and ready to lift each other up.”
