The Alpha School of Music is partnering with the Negril Chamber of Commerce to develop access to music education and performance for both locals and visitors. We invite you to come hear for yourself!
The Sisters of Mercy in Jamaica who operate Alpha have been eager to create pathways to professional development starting from primary school. A special partnership with the Negril Chamber of Commerce offers valuable opportunities to develop both performance and youth music education.
In addition to introducing new music education strategies at the primary school level, Alpha Community Music activities in Negril include public performances because when residents, parents and employers are exposed to more diverse music formats and styles, youth participation in music increases significantly.
Our debut Negril Community Concert rallied schools, businesses, visitors and music fans.
Peter Ashbourne, Director of the Alpha Community Band that performed at the Negril Community Concert and one of Jamaica’s most respected composers, said the education and performance partnership is critical to long term success.
“Bringing together musicians from Kingston, Montego Bay and Negril on one stage showed what is possible when communities invest in music,” said Ashbourne. “We are grateful to the Negril Chamber of Commerce and partners for helping create an event that we hope is the beginning of a lasting tradition of music education and performance in Negril.”
