JARIA Leads Musical Exploration of Don Drummond Impact
Kingston trombone players united at Alpha to honour Don Drummond—Alpha alumnus and ska pioneer—on what would have been his 92nd birthday.
The gathering, led by Evirol Wray—also known as Stingwray and Vice Chairman of Jamaica Association of Recording Industry Artists—brought musicians together to perform and reflect on Drummond’s lasting contribution to ska and Jamaican music.
A past student of the Alpha School of Music and a founding member of The Skatalites, Drummond remains one of Jamaica’s most influential instrumentalists.
The tribute formed part of JARIA’s ongoing outreach efforts in schools across Jamaica, using live performance and mentorship to celebrate the island’s musical pioneers while inspiring the next generation of young musicians.
