At Alpha, Mercy Day is an annual celebration that marks the anniversary of the opening of the first “House of Mercy” in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827 by Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.
On Mercy Day 2026, the Alpha School of Music celebrated the people, values and communities that keep us grounded. Celebrated annually on September 24, Mercy Day coincided this year with Jazz In The Lobby, a monthly event when the Alpha campus connects with the community across generations through music.
For Mercy Day, our “Jazz in the Lobby” concert was dedicated to our senior patrons. We honoured their wisdom, stories, experiences and lasting contributions to our school, our families and quality of life.
Featuring first year student Erica Lumsden our front, the talented Lobby Band supporting her and music fans of all generations filling the lobby, we are proud to have been able to mark Mercy Day 2026 with *beautiful music, meaningful connections, and heartfelt appreciation* as we celebrated those who have helped shape the communities where we live, work and study.
