April is Autism Awareness Month

Joins us Saturday, April 18 at Emancipation Park for the Jamaica Autism Support Association Concert in the Park including a performance by the AVTC percussion ensemble at 4:00 pm followed by an Alpha School of Music Open Mic from 5:00 to 5:30 pm. Alpha students Josh-Lemar Palmer and Jada Gourzong will co-host the session. The Alpha Open Mic is made possible by the Gloria Baylis Foundation and Digicel Foundation.

The Open Mic segment, hosted by the Alpha School of Music, is an inclusive, high-energy space where “Everyone is a Star” and every performer is celebrated for their effort. Open to soloists, duets or spontaneous participants from the crowd, the motto for the session is “Good Vibes Only,” aiming to use performance as a tool to lower stress, boost self-confidence and foster community health and wellness.
The Gloria Baylis Foundation is a Canadian charity improving lives by promoting education, healthcare, and equal opportunities. Established to honor the legacy of Bajan nursing pioneer and entrepreneur Gloria Baylis, the foundation focuses on mental health, food security, and supporting youth from diverse backgrounds. At Alpha, GYF is supporting student internships at the intersection of music and health with additional support from Ireland-based Music Alive.
