Alpha joins the international ska community in mourning Tim’s passing.

The Alpha School of Music family is heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend, Tim Receveur, executive director of the Supernova International Ska Festival. Tim’s passing on Tuesday September 15 marks the sudden end of a very special relationship.

“Tim was so special to Alpha. He opened his home, his family and friends to our students and staff and made us feel like an integral part of the Supernova community,” said Margaret Little Wilson, Administrator at the Alpha School of Music. “He believed in Jamaica’s young musicians and understood how important it was for them to know the history and worldwide reach of our music.”

Alpha’s Special Projects Coordinator, Joshua Chamberlain, said Tim introduced Alpha to a family the school did not know it had.

“As much as Alpha knows its part in the ska story, the school did not always know the whole story about ska,” said Joshua. “Tim didn’t just open the door to today’s ska universe. He made the introductions, invested his time and won over everybody at the school. In fact, he won over everybody who was fortunate to meet him”.

See below a tribute to Tim by Leon Channer, Alpha School of Music Class of 2026. Leon is a past recipient of a Supernova Associate Degree Scholarship and represented Alpha at the festival in 2025.

Tb to my final year show arrangement at @alphamusicja . The first song is Boogie Stop Shuffle and the second is called Limecheck Sumarai by @nysjensemble. I was inspired to do these songs because of my experiences @supernovaska last year. At Supernova I got the chance to see and hear the different cultures of ska from many different countries. Special thanks to Tim for giving me the opportunity to attend .
Rest Well Tim Receveur.
